I adopted my cat Captain 16 years ago and he still sleeps in the crevice of my arm every night. He will be about 19 this year and I will never regret finding him on the internet and driving to Santa Cruz in a rainstorm to pay his $40 adoption fee and take him home. “He’s my mostly companion” as Eloise would say. We are growing into older cats together and he has reluctantly accepted the dog I’ve also adopted since.

It's been almost one year since I took my FIV+, 8 year old, Ziggy home from the humane society. She brings me joy and laughter every day. When I'm sad, I talk to her and nestle my face in her soft fur. She makes the strangest noises - always grunting and sighing like a Minecraft villager. She loves to be held over my shoulder and to flip onto her back for belly rubs. She loves chicken and hates tuna. In the sunlight, she appears almost rose gold.
